Good news is that the Mayor has decided to rescind the Traffic Management Order. Notices that have appeared in the high street to change the short term free parking bays to pay bays are null and void. This is following a campaign by residents and traders that paying a £1 for 30 minutes would deter drivers from shopping in the high street. This is at a time when traders are already struggling after a series of economic shocks in recent years. These include Brexit, the pandemic and the cost-of living crisis. These macro-economic events have tested the resilience of our local economy, the financial prosperity of residents and the growth of local businesses. We need our town centres to be inviting and meeting local needs. Good town centres improve wellbeing, reputation and encourages more economic activity. We want to see thriving town centres, driving footfall and generating local spend. there are a number of new shops in Sydenham so this will be welcome news.
